WHAT IS RES-JUDICATA: Res judicata, also known as claim preclusion, is a legal principle that states that a matter that has been decided by a court or other judicial body cannot be re-litigated or brought before a court again. This principle is based on the idea that once a court has made a decision on a matter, the parties involved should be able to rely on that decision and not have to worry about the matter being brought before a court again. THERE ARE TWO MAIN TYPES OF RES JUDICATA: Claim preclusion and issue preclusion. Claim preclusion applies to a specific claim or cause of action, while issue preclusion applies to a specific issue that has been decided by a court. Claim preclusion prevents a party from bringing the same claim against the same defendant in a new lawsuit.
